It's a New Day!

Saturday, August 6th found us quite refreshed after our night in. We decided to spend a portion of the day taking in the area that would hopefully be our new town. We started by checking out a couple of the local nurseries and outdoor patio solution places. We liked what we saw and hope to make use of these great businesses in the future.

Soon, we had friends that wanted to see the house so we met up there to once again show off the property. Here are some more pictures...

Remember, this is the livingroom (formerly called the library), with the front door on the left and gas fireplace on the right. We saw the chimney outside in a previous picture.
This part of the house was built in 1949.
This interesting closet/cubby is just to the right of the front door as you come in. There is a window behind that cardboard. Don't know why it's covered, but it won't stay that way if we move in. The accordion doors will also come down, replaced by a bench and possibly a shoe area. The entryway (including this cubby, I think) measures about 8.5' x 5'.
Another shot of the livingroom, which measures approximately 18' x 22'. The windows and door in here are single pane glass. On the bottom right of the picture you can see the 2 steps that lead into the diningroom (9' x 9').

The carpets in the living & dining rooms are in good shape, they just need to be cleaned.
Apparently, there is hardwood flooring under the carpet and if that's the case, we will remove
the carpet from the dining area but most likely leave it in the livingroom, at least for now.

This is the kitchen we will be keeping.
This picture is taken from the entry area (the livingroom is off to the left).
This is taken from the other end of the kitchen. The front door is just out of the picture on the right. The floors in here are linoleum but will eventually be replaced with the hardwood floors that we pull out of the part of the house that we're taking down. The mirror over the sink covers up a window that opens into the old gardener's shed (off the covered patio). We will uncover this window, as well. This kitchen measures approx. 8' x 14.5'.

Off the kitchen and through the hall, you can look past the walk-in closet on the right, into the master bedroom. Nice floors, huh?

This is a shot of the hallway we just came through. The narrow door in the wall leads to one of the other bedrooms. It will be sealed off shortly after we move in. Or maybe before we move in.

Another master bedroom picture. The big balcony comes to an end off this corner of the bedroom. The 3 large windows in this room are old single pane glass. And they don't open.
The 5' slider is also single pane. We will be replacing it with French doors.
The master bedroom was once an outdoor patio that was enclosed many years ago.
The room measures approx. 13.5' x 15'.

Sliding door in master leads to the balcony that wraps the ends of the house.

This is in the master, looking toward the master bath and a hallway that leads to a newer addition. The plan (at least today's plan) is that the wall on the left will become the new outside of the house - tearing out most, if not all, of the house on that side.

This is the master bath.

We had a nice time showing our friends the house and then we headed out to get lunch at a favorite local restaurant. After that, we went house hunting for our friends. One of the best parts about being an agent!

Later, my husband and I went home to further dream about this mystery house that would hopefully be ours in the next few months.

Day Eight

  1. I like the kitchen cabinets. They look like knotty pine. Are they? The master bedroom look like it has open beam ceiling. Is it a high ceiling? I like all the windows in the master bedroom, it seems to make the room look bigger.
